By 246 The Main August 28, 2015
246 The Main Theatre in Brookneal presents "EVERGREEN" live on stage on Sept. 4-6 and 11-12. EVERGREEN, a comedy/drama about Alzheimer's, a story of a mother's love for her son and family rivalry reminds us what's really important in life. The play was written by theater owner, Donnalynn Davis, who was caretaker for her mother-in-law, Rachel P. Davis, who suffered from and succumbed to Alzheimer's disease.
"The script is fictional and very funny," says Davis, "The subject matter is a tough one, but I worked in geriatrics for thirteen years, I know the disease well, and it is handled very respectfully. My husband Carl has a saying about this play: 'If it doesn't make you laugh, you don't have a sense of humor, and if it doesn't bring a tear, you don't have a heart.' I think that about says it." The Davis' vow to donate $1,000 to the Alzheimer's Association to help find a cure.
Performances are Sept. 4, 5, 11 and 12 at 7 p.m. and Sept. 6 at 2 p.m. Tickets for EVERGREEN ($10 for adults, students/seniors $8) can be purchased at the 246 Box Office which is open weekdays, 10:am-4:pm (closing Weds. at 2:), Saturday 10:am-6:pm and Sunday 1:-2:pm, or call for reservations at 434-376-2461.
