Amazement Square is Finalist: Institute of Museum and Library Services

National Medal for Museum and Library Service

By Amazement Square February 27, 2015
The Institute of Museum and Library Services this week announced Amazement Square as a National Medal for Museum and Library Service finalist for an unprecedented third straight year. Lynchburg’s nationally acclaimed children’s museum is the only institution representing the state of Virginia among this year’s finalists. The National Medal is the nation’s highest honor given to museums and libraries for service to the community. For 21 years, the award has celebrated institutions that demonstrate extraordinary and innovative approaches to public service to make a difference for individuals, families and communities.
Medal finalists are selected from nationwide nominations of institutions that demonstrate innovative approaches to public service, exceeding the expected levels of community outreach. This year’s finalists exemplify the nation’s great diversity of libraries and museums and include an aquarium, conservatory and botanical gardens, a university library, public libraries, children’s museums, art museums, science centers and more, hailing from across the country.

IMLS is encouraging those who have visited finalist libraries and museums to share their story on the IMLS Facebook page. Amazement Square will be highlighted in the finalist campaign on March 16. To Share Your Story, please visit www.facebook.com/USIMLS.
