Holy Cross School Fifth Grader Claire Thornton

Wins DAR Chapter and District Contests

By Holy Cross Regional Catholic School February 27, 2015

Holy Cross Regional Catholic School student Claire Thornton was recognized in front of her fellow students at a school assembly on Feb. 25, 2015. The fifth grader won both chapter and district essay awards through the Daughters of the American Revolution’s essay competition. For the latter, Claire was competing against several other winners from local elementary schools.

“We would like to present Claire with her certificate, medal and a check for her excellent work,” said Yolan Williams of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the DAR. “Claire’s essay is still in play for a state decision.”

The DAR is open to all women aged 18 or older - of any race, religion, or ethnicity - who directly descend from a patriot of the American Revolution. The Blue Ridge Chapter is the oldest and largest chapter in Lynchburg, Virginia.
