Find Your Family Fun® and Celebrate Parks and Recreation Month in July!

The month of July is Parks and Recreation Month. Enjoy the great parks and trails in Lynchburg this month. The spotlight this week is on Percival's Island Natural Area.

The trailhead is located at 1600 Concord Turnpike in downtown Lynchburg.

At Percival's Island Natural Area, you can walk, run or ride bikes on the paved trail. Kids love crossing the bridges too. The wide trail allows families plenty of space for bikes, strollers, or scooters.

There's more to Percival's than the paved trail. Head down the steps into island life on Percival's. Check out the river views and enjoy watching the James flow past. Take a hike to the tip of the island and walk down by the sandy beach under the bridge.

Take the trail into the woods to the right off the paved trail and see nature up close and personal. There are several paths leading to river views. Check them all out and you'll find a surprise swing hanging from a tree branch. You may even come face-to-face with a deer or two in the woods.

Explore the Amherst county side of the trail too. Near the end of the paved trail, there's a rock display created by a local Boy Scout troop. Check out Percival's Island this month.
