Plan Ahead for St. Patrick's Day Fun

By Sandy Wallace February 28, 2018

March holds many special days including: Read Across America Day on March 2 and the first day of spring on March 20. But one of the favorite March holidays for kids of all ages is St. Patrick's Day, celebrated each year on March 17. What's not to love about four leaf clovers, leprechauns, rainbows, and a pot of gold! So be sure to wear green so you won't get pinched and celebrate the luck of the Irish on St. Patrick's Day!

Preschoolers will enjoy Irish Tales at Forest Library at 10:30 AM on Friday, March 16. There will also be a St. Patrick's Day craft at this free event for ages 3-6 with their parent or caregiver.

Bring the family out to a Square Dance at Armstrong Gym from 7-9 PM on Friday, March 16, hosted by Lynchburg Parks & Recreation Department. Register in advance for this family-friendly event.

Drop in at Lynchburg Public Library for a St. Patrick's Day Craft on Saturday, March 17 between 10 AM and 4 PM. This free event is open to kids of all ages.

Enjoy a St Patrick’s Day Carry-Out Meal for Two from Magnolia Foods in Lynchburg on Saturday, March 17. Orders accepted until 2 PM on March 15. Pick up meals from 2-5 PM on March 17.

Plan now to attend the Freedom First St. Patrick's Day Parade and Shamrock Festival in Roanoke on Saturday, March 17, 2018. The parade starts at 11 AM on Jefferson Street at Elm Avenue in Downtown Roanoke and ends at Williamson Road. This is one of the best and biggest St. Patrick's Day parades around with bands, bagpipes, clowns, scouts, dogs, and lots of green. Be sure to wear green and enjoy a fun-filled day at the St. Patrick's Day Parade.

After the parade, check out the Shamrock Festival and Freedom First Kids Zone. The Shamrock Festival begins at noon in Wells Fargo Plaza behind the City Market Building. Admission is free! Enjoy live music, adult beverages and more.

The kids will have fun in the Freedom First Kids Zone from 12-5 PM with two locations: In front of the Taubman Museum of Art on Salem Avenue and in Market Square along Market Street. Kids will enjoy games, inflatables, face painting and more.

Kids ages 3 and up will enjoy KidzNight at Elite Athletics: Leprechauns and Luck on Saturday, March 17 from 6-9 PM. Come join in a night of Lucky Adventures! Find the Gold, outsmart tricky Leprechauns and have magical clover fun! Enjoy games, activities and pizza.

Several venues are offering St. Patrick's Day menus over the weekend, as well as live music, green beer, and other adult beverages, including: Kegney Brothers on Main Street, Charley's, The Water Dog on Jefferson Street, Fifth & Federal Station on Fifth Street, and Emerald Stone Grille on Jefferson Street
