Lynchburg VA Birthday Parties

Planning a Lynchburg VA area birthday party? This list of local spots for birthday parties will help you find your family fun at the perfect party spot!

Free and Inexpensive Party Places and Parks

Kids Cove, 1 Mountain View Road, is a free ministry of Thomas Road Baptist Church with indoor play areas for children up to age 10. Kids will enjoy running, climbing, crawling and sliding in the treehouse themed play area at Kids Cove. There's a special toddler area for the little ones. Posted hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays; however, they are closed during some school and church events. Kids Cove is also a great place for birthday parties (which are also free), but plan far ahead because they book up quickly. You provide everything for the party and you are responsible for clean-up. There are tables outside the enclosed play area to set up for a meal, snacks, or cake. To book a party, call 434-239-9281.

Peaks View Park, located at 170 Ivy Creek Lane, is the second largest park in Lynchburg and is also very popular with area families. At Peaks View Park, you can enjoy the playgrounds, baseball, softball and soccer fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, mountain bike trails, hiking and biking trails. The playground at the top of the park (Wiggington Road entrance) is more suited to older kids, while the littles will enjoy the playground at the bottom of the park (Ardmore Drive entrance). One of the newest features at this bottom playground is a face-to-face swing where babies and toddlers can swing facing an older child or adult. There's a fitness course that winds through the park, beginning near the softball field at the Ardmore Drive entrance. Peaks View Park also offers a free 18-hole disc golf course. Enter the park at the Wiggington Road entrance. The disc golf course begins near the bathrooms. Bring your own canopy or picnic blanket to set up. In addition, picnic tables located at the Wiggington Road and Ardmore Drive entrances are available free of charge on a first come, first served basis. Riverside Park, located at 2238 Rivermont Avenue, is the second oldest park in Lynchburg and one of the most popular park for area families. Riverside Park offers two playground areas, including the popular train-themed Play Core Playground beside the Sprayground water play area, a ground level ADA accessible water park which opened in July 2010. Sprayground includes a tall tower with buckets that fill with water before emptying onto the heads of those below. Also included are ground level water spouts, fish that spray water, and cascading waterfalls. Sprayground is open seasonally from May through September. The Junior League of Lynchburg helped fund this project, part of an ongoing renovation at Riverside Park. The transportation theme continues throughout the park with a train locomotive, tender, and caboose; the Fink Deck Truss Bridge, which is a national engineering landmark; and the hull of the packet boat, Marshall. The Alpine Trail, the first dedicated hiking trail in Lynchburg, offers scenic views of the James River. There are also tennis and basketball courts and picnic areas. Ivy Creek Park, located at 118 Clemmons Lake Place, the city's newest park, was dedicated in 2011. Ivy Creek isn't a busy park like Peaks View, Riverside and Miller Parks.From the small nature-themed play area to the fishing lake and wooded trails, you'll be surrounded by nature. Canoe and kayak rentals are available on summer weekends. You can also fish from the banks of Clemmons Lake or the pier. Clemmons Lake is a catch and release lake. Turn off Route 221 into the Lynchpin Industrial Park between Sheetz and the fire station and follow the signs to Ivy Creek Park. Bring your own canopy or picnic blanket. You can also use picnic tables, which are available free of charge on a first come, first served basis. Miller Park, located in Midtown Lynchburg at 2100 Park Avenue, is the oldest park in Lynchburg. Miller Park Pool, the only public outdoor pool in Lynchburg, is a summer favorite with kids of all ages. The 50-meter pool includes a spiral water slide, kiddie pool with mushroom waterfall, low and high diving boards, concession stand, picnic tables, and lawn chairs. There is a per guest fee for use of the pool. In addition to the pool, Miller Park offers several play areas for the kids, a basketball court, picnic areas, pavilions, and paved walking trails. You can enjoy Food Truck Thursdays weekly at Miller Park from spring through fall with a variety of local food trucks. Bring your own canopy or picnic blanket. Riverfront Park, located at 1100 Jefferson Street, includes a large open field often used as an event venue. In addition, Riverfront Park connects to the Riverwalk and Percival's Island Trails. The zero-depth fountain, open seasonally from May through September, is very popular with younger kids. The park also includes boardwalks, rain gardens with wildlife plantings, benches, shade trees, and a stage area. Bring your own canopy or picnic blanket to set up for a birthday party or use the benches surrounding the fountain. Riverfront Park is unavailable at times due to scheduled events.

Hollins Mill Park, located at 521 Hollins Mill Road, is a favorite photo shoot venue for area families with excellent views of Blackwater Creek and historic Hollins Mill Dam. Picnic tables and grills make this park a popular weekend site. Hollins Mill Park also offers trail connections to the Blackwater Creek Bikeway, including the Point of Honor Trail section. The Hollins Mill Tunnel is a family favorite spot for bike riding. Bring your own canopy or picnic blanket. Campbell County Parks

Timbrook Park, located at 19040 Leesville Road in Lynchburg, is located beside the Campbell County Timbrook Branch Public Library. The park offers a handicap accessible playground, baseball/softball fields, volleyball court, grilling and picnic facilities, and walking trails.

English Park, is located at 206 Pittsylvania Avenue in Altavista, beside the Staunton River. English Park offers playgrounds, athletic fields, walking trails, grilling and picnic facilities, restrooms, and river access, including a boat ramp for canoes and kayaks. 

Brookneal Recreation Park, located at 299 Caroline Avenue in Brookneal, offers a playground, baseball and softball fields, tennis courts and trails. 

Amherst County Parks

Amherst County Parks:

Riveredge Park, located at 150 Rocky Hill Road in Madison Heights, offers a paved walking and biking trail, seasonal kayak and canoe rentals, a boat ramp, fishing access, a picnic area, and a children's playground. Bring your own canopy or picnic blanket. You can also use picnic tables, which are available free of charge on a first come, first served basis.

Coolwell Park, located at 646 N. Coolwell Road in Amherst, offers a children's play area; soccer, football, and softball fields; basketball courts; nature trail; grills; and restrooms. The community center at the park is available for rental through Amherst County Recreation and Parks Department, located at 129 Francis Avenue, Monroe.

Monacan Park, located at 1159 Monacan Park Road in Madison Heights, is located on the James River. The park offers a play area for children, boat ramp and small dock for boat access to the river, a covered picnic pavilion and picnic area, and restrooms.

Mill Creek Lake, located at 238 Mill Creek Lake Road in the Temperance area of Amherst, offers a 190 acre fishing lake, boat ramp, picnic tables, grills, a play area for children, and restrooms.

Stonehouse Lake Park, located at 294 Stonehouse Lake Road in the Temperance area of Amherst, offers a 41 acre fishing lake, boat ramp, covered picnic pavilion, picnic tables, grills, a play area for children, and restrooms.

Thrashers Lake Park, located at 223 Thrashers Lake Road in the Temperance area of Amherst, offers a 36 acre fishing lake, boat ramp, picnic tables, grills, a play area for children, and restrooms.

Appomattox County Parks

Appomattox Town Park, located on Hunter Street near Appomattox County High School, is a popular park for families that contains a walking trail, picnic pavilion, playground and an original caboose. Bring your own canopy or picnic blanket. You can also use picnic tables, which are available free of charge on a first come, first served basis.

Bedford County Parks

Falling Creek Park, located at 1257 County Farm Road in Bedford, offers playgrounds, BMX bike course, 36-hole disc golf course, skateboard park, and trails. Picnic shelters (available first come, first served) may be rented for half day or full day. Half day rental rates are $15-$25 for Bedford County residents and $25-$35 for non-residents. Full day rental rates are $40-$80 for Bedford County residents and $50-$100 for non-residents. Print application for shelter rentals or visit the Bedford County Parks & Recreation office, which is adjacent to Falling Creek Park. 

In addition, many churches in the area offer playground facilities which are open to the public at no charge when not in use for church functions.

Indoor Party Places

All Fired Up Lynchburg, 18478 Forest Road in Forest, allows your child and party guests to create a unique piece of artwork. Pottery painting parties are for ages 6 and up and include: 1 1/2 hours in the party room, pottery piece for each guest to paint, all materials needed to create artwork, glazing and firing of all pieces, all pottery gift bagged and labeled for parent to pick up and distribute, a staff member to help with instructions and clean-up, and a complimentary handprint birthday plate for the birthday child. Cost is $150 for up to eight painters (including birthday child) with an additional $15 fee for each additional painter. Maximum number of guests is 14. Imagination Station Studio, 14805 Forest Road, Ste. 225, Forest, offers hands off birthday party packages. Drop off your decorations the day before the party; bring snacks, drinks, and cake on the day of the party and enjoy the fun. Party packages include: A 2 hour party reservation, invitations, set up and clean up, kid’s packages (include project, apron, paint, pallet and brush), and a CD at the end with the party’s pictures. Bounce About of Lynchburg, 3405 Candlers Mountain Road, offers indoor fun with a variety of inflatables for kids ages 12 and under. Bounce About also has a special toddler play area for kids ages 3 and under. Bounce About offers 2-hour party packages (1 hour and 15 minutes in play area, 45 minutes in private party room) accommodating parties up to 24 kids. Party packages include: Mini-Bounce for 8 children ($125 Monday-Thursday; $160 on weekends); Classic Bounce for 16 children ($185 Monday-Thursday; $220 on weekends); and Mega Bounce for 24 children ($245 Monday-Thursday; $285 on weekends). The Nature Zone is an environmental education center that offers a world of fun and excitement for all ages. Check out The Nature Zone on Fridays and Saturdays from 12-4 PM. Nature Zone Live Animal Safari Parties are available at the Miller Center. Each birthday party package includes: a 2-hour rental of The Nature Zone, 45-minute program led by park naturalist, birthday cake, punch, paper products, tables and chairs. Party cost is $150. FunQuest Family Entertainment Center, 327 Graves Mill Road, offers roller skating, inline skating, laser tag, arcade and video games and PlayQuest - an indoor playground for kids ages 10 and under. Birthday party packages of various price levels are available, beginning at $99 for Monday Madness Parties (up to 10 children with unlimited fun pack, reserved table in party area, and two pitchers of soda. You may bring your own cake; however, no other outside food is permitted. You provide all paper products and candles. No party host is included with this package. Jump Lynchburg Trampoline Park, 3700 Candlers Mountain Road Jump Lynchburg is a 10,000 square foot indoor trampoline park open to all ages. Children under age 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Jump Lynchburg features over 50 trampolines, foam jumping pits, basketball goals, and dodgeball court. YMCA of Central Virginia: Jamerson Family YMCA, 801 Wyndhurst Drive, and Downtown YMCA, 1315 Church Street, offer birthday party packages. Parties are scheduled in two-hour blocks on Saturday or Sunday afternoons. The first hour is reserved for fun in the pool, while the second hour is spent having a ball in the multipurpose room. The YMCA will provide the space for the party, a Dairy Queen ice cream cake, and a lifeguard to assist with the festivities. Liberty Mountain Snowflex Centre, 4000 Candlers Mountain Road, welcomes groups of 10 or more for 2-4 hour birthday parties. Party package costs include room rental and per guest fees. Room rental fees include: $85 (Monday-Thursday 2 hours in Birthday Party Room), $95 (Friday-Sunday 2 hours in Birthday Party Room), $165 (Monday-Thursday 3 hours in Brown Room), $200 (Friday-Sunday 3 hours in Brown Room), $425 (Monday-Thursday 4 hours in entire Upper Lodge), $500 (Friday-Sunday 4 hours in entire Upper Lodge). Large or small shelters may be rented at a cost of $75 (large) or $65 (small) by calling 434-455-5858 or visiting Lynchburg Parks & Recreation office at The Miller Center, 301 Grove Street. 

Riverfront Park, located at 1100 Jefferson Street, includes a large open field often used as an event venue. In addition, Riverfront Park connects to the Riverwalk and Percival's Island Trails. The zero-depth fountain, open seasonally from May through September, is very popular with younger kids. The park also includes boardwalks, rain gardens with wildlife plantings, benches, shade trees, and a stage area. Bring your own canopy or picnic blanket to set up for a birthday party or use the benches surrounding the fountain. Riverfront Park is unavailable at times due to scheduled events.

Hollins Mill Park, located at 521 Hollins Mill Road, is a favorite photo shoot venue for area families with excellent views of Blackwater Creek and historic Hollins Mill Dam. Picnic tables and grills make this park a popular weekend site. In addition, Hollins Mill Park includes trail connections to the Blackwater Creek Bikeway, including the Point of Honor Trail section. Bring your own canopy or picnic blanket. You can also use picnic tables, which are available free of charge on a first come, first served basis.
