Plan ahead for the last weekend before Halloween! There are tons of family friendly activities and events to enjoy in the Lynchburg area this weekend, including many Halloween themed events, fall festivals, and trunk or treat events.

Here are our top 15+ choices for family fun in the Lynchburg area this weekend. Check out our October Fall Festivals and Fun Guide, our Halloween and Trunk or Treat Guide, and our full event calendar for all of the best local events.

1. Visit an area pumpkin patch in Central Virginia. Dark Leaf Farms in Concord is open Saturdays and Sundays; Smith's Pumpkin Patch in Lynchburg is open daily; Yoders' Farm Fall Festival in Rustburg is open Tuesday through Saturday; Layman Family Farms Fall Festival in Blue Ridge is open Saturdays and Sundays; Jeter Farm Fall Festival in Roanoke is open Saturdays and Sundays, and White Fall Farm in Gretna is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

2. Mini Monster Mash takes place on Friday at Timberlake Family Pharmacy. Little monsters can do a store walk-a-bout and show off their costumes. Children will receive a fun goody bag of treats. There will also be food trucks and three costume parades at this fun event, geared towards toddler/preschool aged children.

3. Attend an area trunk or treat event! All of the area's trunk or treat events are listed in our guide at the link. This weekend, check out these events: Trunk or Treat at Virginia Select Auto in Amherst from 6-8 PM on Friday, Truck or Treat at Brookville High School (for special needs individuals) in Lynchburg from 9 AM - 12 PM on Saturday, Trunk or Treat at T.C. Miller Elementary in Lynchburg from 2-4 PM on Saturday, Carts and Candy at Ivy Hill Golf Club from 2 PM - 4:30 PM on Saturday, Trunk or Treat at Calvary Baptist Church in Lynchburg from 4-6 PM on Saturday, Trunk or Treat at West Lynchburg Baptist Church in Lynchburg from 6-8 PM on Saturday, Halloween Candy Hunt at Amelon United Methodist Church in Madison Heights from 6:30 -7:30 PM on Saturday, Trunk or Treat at Faith Baptist Church in Madison Heights from 4-6 PM on Sunday, River Church Truck and Treat in Madison Heights from 4:30-6:30 PM on Sunday, Impact Church Spooktacular Trunk or Treat in Forest from 5-7 PM on Sunday, Halloween Town at Liberty Lake in Bedford from 5-9 PM on Saturday, Fall Fest and Trunk or Treat at Fairview Christian Church in Lynchburg from 5-7 PM on Sunday, Crosswhite Fall Festival at Crosswhite Athletic Club in Lynchburg from 5-8 PM on Sunday, or Trunk or Treat at Mountain View United Methodist Church in Forest from 5-7 PM on Sunday.

4. Head to a spooky event! Scaremare on Carroll Avenue in Lynchburg takes place on Oct. 24-26, Fright Night at Liberty Lake in Bedford takes place on Oct. 25 (scary version) and Oct. 26 (kid-friendly version), Haunted Hayride and Haunted Trail takes place at Lynchburg South Moose Family Center on Oct. 25-26, Dark Leaf Farms Haunted Corn Maze in Concord on Saturday night, and Haunted History Hike at Natural Bridge State Park in Natural Bridge on Saturday night. 

5. Candlelight Tours take place at Old City Cemetery in Lynchburg on Oct. 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, and 26. Professional actors in period costume bring Cemetery residents to life with true stories from local history with multiple tours between 6:10 PM and 8:10 PM. If you haven't ordered tickets yet, there's still hope! Fairweather Candlelight Tour Tickets may still be available, depending on weather.

6. I Am Woman 5K Walk/Run takes place at Centra Alan B. Pearson Regional Cancer Center in Lynchburg at 8 AM on Saturday. This fun event is for women and girls only of all ages. Wear your tutu or costume if you want and join the fun!

7.  Saturday is festival and carnival day (a few events also have Friday and/ or Sunday hours)! Click on the links for details about any or all of these events: Fall Festival and Auction at Bethel Mennonite School in Gladys from 7 AM - 2 PM; Harvest Market at Lynchburg Community Market from 7 AM - 2 PM; Annual Halloween Carnival at Timberlake Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Lynchburg from 10 AM - 2 PM; Bedford Hills Carnival, Silent Auction and Raffle at Bedford Hills Elementary School in Lynchburg from 10 AM - 2:30 PM;  New London Day at the historic New London Village in Forest from 10 AM - 3 PM; Blue Ridge Montessori School's Community Fall Festival at Forest Library from 3-6 PM; Fall Festival at Leesville Road United Methodist Church in Evington from 5-7 PM: and Heritage Elementary School Haunted Hallways at Heritage Elementary in Lynchburg from 6-9 PM. 

8. Children's Workshop, Color Field Painting at University of Lynchburg takes place from 9-11 AM on Saturday. Join us for a fun filled morning learning about art, color, and color field painting. Explore our galleries and the exhibition of works by Connie Fox and William King. This free event is open to the public and is intended for ages 5 and older. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

9. Halloween Town takes place at Liberty Lake in Bedford from 5-9 PM on Saturday. In addition to the kid-friendly version of Fright Night, this event includes a 100 car "Trunk n Treat", Costume Contest, Bounce Houses, Balloon Artist, Music, & Many more children activities.

10. Kidz Kraze Fall Consignment Sale will be held Oct. 26-30 at Boonsboro Ruritan Club in Lynchburg. This is a great place to save money while you shop for clothing from size newborn to Juniors, maternity clothes, toys, furniture, baby gear, and so much more for kids of all ages.

11. Story Time in the Galleries at Maier Museum at Randolph College in Lynchburg is recommended for ages 4-7. Kids will experience the stories featured in the exhibition "Children’s Book Illustrations: Visual Storytelling," and make a drawing or collage inspired by the works of art at this free event, which takes place Saturday at 11 AM. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

12. Halloween Party and Fall Festival at the Jamerson YMCA in Lynchburg takes place on Saturday from 2-4 PM. Parents are free (small fee for kids) for this fun event, which includes a Photo booth, Face Painting, Temporary Tattoos' Pumpkin Walk for prizes, Haystack scavenger hunt, Large Inflatables, Arts & Crafts provided by Home Depot, Healthy Snacks, and a Haunted Hallway.

13. Kids Eat Free at McAlister's Deli in Lynchburg from Oct. 26-31. Celebrate Halloween for days as kids in costume eat free Saturday, October 26th, through Thursday, October 31st! Offer valid for up to 2 free kids meals per adult entrée purchase (dine in or carry out only).

14. Kidz Night: Spooktacular takes place at Elite Athletics in Lynchburg from 6-9 PM on Saturday. Let us spend the evening with your kids at Elite Athletics celebrating Halloween. Your kids will enjoy games, an obstacle course, crafts and food. Register in advance for this fun event.

15. Altavista Scarecrow Stroll takes place in Altavista all month from Oct. 1 - Oct. 31. Each year Altavista On Track hosts the Altavista Scarecrow Stroll. Businesses, churches, organizations, and residents are invited to make their own scarecrows and post them up in front of their businesses or in the downtown area for visitors and residents to visit and vote on their favorite scarecrow!

In addition the events above, bonus Sunday Funday events include: Paw-loween Costume Contest at Craddock Terry Hotel in Lynchburg at 1:30 PM; Fall Fun Fest at Hyland Heights Baptist Church in Rustburg from 4-7 PM: Harvest Festival at Lynchburg First Church of the Nazarene in Lynchburg from 4-6 PM; and Monster Bash at The Virginian Hotel in Lynchburg from 4-6 PM.
