At The James River Association summer camps, youth don’t just learn about the river—they explore it, paddle it, sketch it, fish it, and build real skills alongside experienced educators. Through hands-on activities in art, fishing, outdoor skills, and paddling, campers gain confidence, curiosity, and a deeper sense of belonging to the James River.
Camps are held at the Upper James River Center located at Riveredge Park in Madison Heights, VA.
Starting June 15 and running through August 7, we’ll be offering 4 and 5 day camps for kids ages 5-17 with half and full day options.

While campers are having fun, they’re also learning and developing an understanding of river ecosystems, environmental science, and the role they play in protecting the James River. Above all, JRA Camps are designed to spark curiosity, build stewardship, and help kids form lasting connections to nature and the river that runs through our communities.
