12 Christmas Eve Traditions to Celebrate with your Family in 2022

Christmas Eve is a special time for families. Different families have different traditions. However you spend time together, celebrate this special day in your family's unique way. 

As we prepare to bid the year farewell, here are 12 ways to celebrate Christmas Eve with your family!

1. Bake cookies together. Here are some of our family's favorite Christmas cookie recipes.

2. Read "The Night Before Christmas" together. Many families end the day with the reading of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas before tucking the kids into bed.

3. Take a ride to look at Christmas lights. Stay tuned to find out where to find Christmas lights in the Lynchburg area!

4. Leave cookies and milk for Santa. Don't forget the reindeer. The entire family can enjoy this Reindeer Food recipe from allrecipes

5. Make ornaments for your tree or to give as gifts. These fun salt dough ornaments are easy to make. While they're baking and cooling, enjoy some other family traditions!

6. Dress in Christmas pajamas and gather around the Christmas tree for a photo. If you don't have matching PJs, wear matching shirts!

7. Attend a Christmas Eve service in person or online. Some Lynchburg churches offering Christmas Eve services include: St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3015 Roundelay Road; Timberlake United Methodist Church, 21649 Timberlake Road; Thomas Road Baptist Church, One Mountain View Road; and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 Langhorne Road. 9. Read the story of Jesus' birth from Luke 2:1-20 in the Bible. Some families read a simpler version of Jesus' birth from a children's book.

10. Follow Santa's path. You can follow Santa's journey on Christmas Eve on the official NORAD tracks Santa website. There are apps available on the website to use on your phone.

11. Let each child open one gift. In many families, each child opens one gift on Christmas Eve. This is a fun way to help kids with the excitement they're feeling.

12. Take a walk down Christmas Memory Lane with your family. Look through old photos or let technology help with Facebook memories or Timehop.
