Veterans Day: A Salute to America's Heroes

Virginia parades, observances, and ceremonies honor local veterans

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, Germany signed an armistice agreement with the Allies that ended the Great War, now known as World War I. Veterans Day, first observed as Armistice Day to honor veterans of World War I, now honors all who served in the United States Armed Forces. 


Veterans Day events taking place in our area and across Virginia include:

Virginia's Veterans Parade will be held in downtown Roanoke on Saturday, Nov. 8, starting at 11 AM. 

The 71st annual National Veterans Day Observance will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 11 AM. The program in Memorial Amphitheater is open to the public. If you're unable to attend in person, a livestream of the event will be available online.

There will be a Veterans Day Observance at D-Day Memorial in Bedford on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 11 AM.

There will be a Veterans Day Ceremony at Monument Terrace in Lynchburg on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 11 AM. In addition, the weekly Monument Terrace Troop Rally will be held on Friday, Nov. 7 at 12 PM.

There will be a Veterans Day Ceremony at Appomattox American Legion Post 104 on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 11 AM.

The Commonwealth of Virginia’s Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at Virginia War Memorial in Richmond on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 3 PM.

There will be a Veterans Day Commemoration at National Center for Healthy Veterans at Valor Farm in Altavista on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 4 PM.

In addition to these events, The National Park Service is waiving entrance fees at all national parks on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025. **May change if parks are shut down**
