July is National Parks and Recreation Month. Enjoy the great parks and trails in Lynchburg this month. Make plans to enjoy a day at Peaks View Park this month and enjoy the great outdoors.

At Peaks View Park, you can enjoy the playground, baseball, softball and soccer fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, mountain bike trails, hiking and biking trails. The playground at the top of the park (Wiggington Road entrance) is more suited to older kids, while the littles will enjoy the playground at the bottom of the park (Ardmore Drive entrance).

The newly renovated upper playground includes slides, swings, climbing structures, and an oversized spiral swing that holds many children. There's also a bicycle pump track near the upper playground. The bottom playground includes slides, climbing structures, and a face-to-face swing where babies and toddlers can swing facing an older child or adult.

There's also a fitness course that winds through the park, beginning near the softball field at the Ardmore Drive entrance.

Peaks View Park offers a free 18-hole disc golf course. Enter the park at the Wiggington Road entrance. The disc golf course begins near the bathrooms. Use plain old Frisbees or go pro with regulation disc golf discs. You can find a big selection of new and used discs at Play It Again Sports.

Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy a day at one of Lynchburg's favorite parks during the month of July.
