July is Parks and Recreation Month: Hike the Trails of Lynchburg

By Sandy Wallace June 19, 2019

July is National Parks and Recreation Month. Enjoy the great parks and trails in Lynchburg this month. Lynchburg's trail system includes miles of paved trails as well as natural trails through the woods.

Our family's favorite is Creekside Trail, easily accessed from the Blackwater Creek Bikeway near the Ed Page Entrance off Langhorne Road. The 5-mile trail, winding beside the Blackwater Creek, is easy enough for the entire family to enjoy.

In the quiet of the woods, enjoy nature at its finest. Kids of all ages will love crossing the suspension bridges and listening to the sounds of the forest. Creekside Trail is one of the trails of Blackwater Creek.

Bring water bottles and spend an hour or a day hiking the trails: Creekside Trail, Beaver Trail, Elmwood Trail and the Ruskin Freer Loop. Pick up a free hiking guide to the trails at the Ed Page Entrance to the Blackwater Creek Bikeway and plan your hike.
