Sharp Top Mountain rises majestically above the Peaks of Otter Restaurant and Lodge, located at MP 86 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Sharp Top is the best known of the three peaks that make up the Peaks of Otter. The other two peaks are Flat Top and Harkening Hill.
Choose your hike at the Peaks of Otter. Sharp Top and Flat Top are both strenuous hikes; however, shuttle bus service is available to Sharp Top on select days from May through October. Purchase tickets for shuttle service at the Country Store on the day of your visit. Shuttle hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The shuttle takes you to within 1,500 feet of the Sharp Top summit.
The 360-degree views from the top of Sharp Top Mountain are worth the hike. There's no shuttle service for the other peaks. The Sharp Top Hike is 1.5 miles to the summit. The Flat Top Hike is 4.4 miles to the summit. The Harkening Hill Hike is a moderate 3.3 mile trail.
There are also a couple of easier hikes at the Peaks of Otter. The Johnson Farm Trail is a moderate 2.1 mile trail that leads to the Johnson Farm, a restored living history farm. The Abbott Lake Trail offers an easy family-friendly and accessible 1-mile hike looping around the lake. Choose your distance and take a hike this weekend at the Peaks of Otter.
