Winter a great time to add outdoor time to your family's routine. Check out the Lynchburg Macaroni Kid Winter Family Fun Bucket List for family fun around town.
You don't have to stay indoors just because it's winter. Try to spend 15 to 30 minutes each day participating in active, outdoor time. You can hike, ride bikes or just play a game of ball in your own back yard. Bundle up first if it's really cold. Spending time outdoors helps the kids burn off some of that sitting-all-day energy.
All winter, Lynchburg Macaroni Kid wants to help you spend more time outdoors by suggesting great local places to enjoy. This week's pick is Peaks View Park, located at 170 Ivy Creek Lane in Lynchburg. Park at the Ardmore Drive entrance near the big red barn and play on the lower playground, then take a long walk or bike ride on the paved Ivy Creek Greenway. Love to mountain bike? Bring the bikes and hit the wooded trails in the Bill Foot Recreation Area.
You can also park at the Ivy Creek Lane entrance off Wiggington Road near the tennis courts. Bring your tennis rackets and a few balls and play a friendly family match of tennis. Head down the hill and check out the newly renovated play area. Bring along your frisbees or golf discs and enjoy a round of disc golf on the Rotary course. The 18-hole disc golf course is open to all ages year round and it's free. You can also access the new bike pump track, located beside the tennis courts.
Start this week and commit to spending time outdoors every week during winter -- every day if you can. Get physical and have a happy, healthy 2024.
