Sparkly Cinnamon Spice Heart Ornaments

Perfect for Gift-Giving or Hanging on Your Christmas Tree

By Sandy Wallace December 16, 2022
When my son was in preschool, his class made cinnamon spice heart ornaments for Christmas. After searching on the web, I put together this recipe that's perfect for making with the kids for Christmas gift-giving or to hang on your tree. Tie a cinnamon spice heart onto a plate of homemade goodies to share with family and friends.

Sparkly Cinnamon Spice Valentine's Heart Ornaments

1 cup cinnamon
2 tablespoons ground cloves
2 tablespoons ground nutmeg
1 cup applesauce or apple butter
2 tablespoons white glue

Mix the ingredients together into a ball. I use apple butter in place of the applesauce to make the ornaments a darker color.
Knead the dough and roll it out between two sheets of wax paper, sprinkled with cinnamon. Use different sized heart cookie cutters to cut the dough into shapes. Use a drinking straw to cut a hole for hanging at the top of each heart.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place hearts onto the baking sheet. Bake at 200 degrees for two hours. Turn ornaments over after an hour. Let cool for an hour after removing from the oven.
Paint one side of each heart with Mod Podge to seal. While wet, sprinkle with glitter. After dried, add red or gold yarn or ribbon to hang your hearts.
You can make these cinnamon spice hearts in your child's classroom, with your kids or grandkids or with friends at a Christmas or Valentine's Day party.
Try different colors of glitter. Some favorites with kids are red, silver and gold, but be creative. Hang your cinnamon spice hearts from your tree or write names on them with paint and tie onto gifts as unique gift tags.
