Whether your family enjoys outdoor fun or hanging out inside, these 25 ideas will help you make memories and enjoy fun family time in any season.

1. Enjoy some active fun. Ski, snowboard or snow tube at Snowflex, play a round of disc golf at Peaks View Park, hike the Alpine Trail at Riverside Park, play at Bounce About or visit SeaQuest Lynchburg in the River Ridge Mall, play at Jump Lynchburg trampoline park, go bowling, play mini golf at Tiny Town Golf or Putt-Putt, learn to rope climb at Rise Up Climbing, or play soccer or kickball in your yard.

4. Pack a picnic lunch and take a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Stop at the overlooks along the way for photos or to take a hike on the trails. Check this article with lots of family friendly hikes off the Blue Ridge Parkway. 

5. Head to the library for the day. Lynchburg Public Library has a variety of events for kids of all ages. All of the events are listed on our website calendar.

6. Plan a board game day and let your kids teach you a new game. Then teach your kids old school games like jacks, hopscotch, checkers and dodge ball. See some of our family's favorite board games and plan a Board Game Blitz!

9. Get up early and watch the sunrise, go outside in the evening and watch the sunset, or go outside after dark and try to identify the stars in the sky.

10. Visit Lynchburg Museum at 901 Court Street in Downtown Lynchburg and learn more about local history. Admission is always free. Closed Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and major holidays.

11. Enjoy family fun at Amazement Square. There are lots of fun events all week long. Let each child bring a friend for double the fun.

13. Visit your favorite Virginia State Park. Some parks offer guided hikes, while others let you hike your own hike. Check the VSP website for a listing of all 42 parks.

15. Let your kids plan a sleepover at your house. Watch movies, have a craft night, play outdoor games after dark, drink hot cocoa and have fun.

16. Just for fun, make a movie about your family's adventures. It’s easy to do using your phone. Share with family and friends.

17. Take a family trip to Washington DC, the Children's Museum or Science Museum in Richmond, Busch Gardens or Kings Dominion, Roanoke’s Mill Mountain Zoo, or one of the many historic sites in Virginia.

18. Help your kids start a journal or scrapbook. Use the computer or go old school with pen and paper or scrapbooking supplies.

19. Bake cookies, cupcakes, or other treats together or plan a special family meal and let the kids help in the kitchen.

20. Have a book reading marathon. See how many books you can read in a week. Read aloud as a family or let each person read silently.

24. Plan a “do nothing day” and stay in your pajamas all day. Binge watch your family’s favorite movies, enjoy snacks and just hang out together.

25. Do something to help others. Donate toys, food, or clothes to a homeless shelter, soup kitchen or food pantry; pick up litter from your street; visit the pets at the Humane Society; or help a family in need.
