Enjoy a Spring Wildflower Hike on Creekside Trail

By Sandy Wallace February 27, 2024

Springtime is the right time for a hike along Blackwater Creek. Park at the Ed Page Entrance to the Blackwater Creek Bikeway off Langhorne Road. Stop at the Awareness Garden, a site dedicated to all who have fought the battle against cancer. There are many wildflowers in bloom in the garden.

Continue along the Blackwater Creek Bikeway, then turn into the woods at the Creekside Trail sign. At the bottom of the hill, turn right and follow the yellow-blazed trail to cross suspension bridges and wooded boardwalks over Ivy and Blackwater creeks. The trail comes out across from The Farm Basket on Langhorne Road.

Another option is to turn left at the bottom of the hill instead of right. There are many wildflowers blooming along the trail and on the banks of Blackwater Creek, including several patches of Virginia Bluebells. Continue along Creekside Trail and follow the signs for the Bikeway. Creekside Trail intersects with the Blackwater Creek Bikeway near the .25 trail marker sign.

Visit the Lynchburg Macaroni Kid Facebook page and check out our photo album, filled with springtime colors from a hike along Blackwater Creek. Pick up a trail map at the kiosk at the entrance to the Bikeway to learn more about the trail system in Lynchburg.
