Find Your Family Fun® at Lynchburg VA School Playgrounds

Many Lynchburg City Schools have park-like playgrounds to enjoy when school is not in session!

Lynchburg has a wide variety of parks including: Miller Park, the oldest park in Lynchburg; Riverside Park, one of the most beloved parks in Lynchburg; and Ivy Creek Park, the newest park in Lynchburg. You can learn more about all of Lynchburg's parks and those in the surrounding counties in our Lynchburg VA Parks Guide.

In addition to the local parks, many Lynchburg City Schools have park-like playgrounds, perfect for family fun after school, in the summertime, and during times when no students are on campus. If your family is ready for playground fun, two of these playgrounds may bring back memories to many young parents.

If you were a child living in Lynchburg in the 80s or 90s, you probably played on the playground at Heritage Elementary School, Linkhorne Elementary School or both. Back in the day, both had hand-built wooden playgrounds. Both wooden playgrounds eventually wore out and were replaced with playgrounds built with longer-lasting materials.

We've recently visited both of these playgrounds, which have been rebuilt within recent years. Our little ones had a great time playing on all of the fun equipment and yours will too.

The playground equipment at Heritage is suitable for a wide ages range of children. Although most of the equipment is geared for ages 5 to 12, there's a smaller play area for ages 2 to 5. Our toddler was able to maneuver pretty well, even on the equipment geared to ages 5 to 12.

Both playgrounds have fencing around them for safety. Both feature lots of slides and swings, including an inclusive swing with a locking mechanism that's suitable for children and adults with special needs. Both playgrounds also have climbers, monkey bars, and spinners. There are bridges and tunnels too.

The Linkhorne PAL (Park at Linkhorne) playground also has a free standing two-way zipline and a teeter totter. The equipment is fun for kids and sturdy enough for adults to join in the fun.

The Heritage playground, located at 501 Leesville Road (intersection of Timberlake and Leesville Roads) in Lynchburg, is orange and blue, the school colors of both Heritage Elementary and Heritage High School.

The Linkhorne playground, located at 2501 Linkhorne Drive in Lynchburg, is brown and green with a nature theme. Enjoy the photo slide show images as you plan your next visit to these great playgrounds.
