There are over 400,000 children in foster care across the United States with over 5,000 in Virginia alone. There is a significant need for foster parents/families! The qualifications include having a home that is safe and secure, having financial stability, being 21 years old or older, having reliable transportation, and being able to clear background checks.
We welcome diversity! You can be any race, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or culture. You can be single, married, divorced, widowed, or live with a partner. You can have children, be an empty nester, or have no parenting experience. We will provide you with training, support, and guidance throughout the certification process (which is of no cost to you).
The process can take approximately 90 days. Foster parents/families receive monthly financial assistance to assist with the care of the child and Medicaid benefits are provided. While we are not an adoption agency, we work closely with foster parents and the Department of Social Services to help children find forever homes. Over half of our foster families make the decision to adopt their foster child(ren).
