You do not have to travel far to visit the extensive trail system in Lynchburg. Our city's trails are part of the James River Heritage Trail System that follows the James River from the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains to the Chesapeake Bay.

The Blackwater Creek Trail is one of the most popular walking, running and biking trails in the city of Lynchburg.

The 3-mile paved trail was built along a former railway bed and intersects with two other trails: Kemper Street Trail and Point of Honor Trail.

Kemper Street Trail takes you to the Amtrak Station on Kemper Street. Point of Honor Trail takes you to downtown Lynchburg and intersects with the RiverWalk Trail, which leads to Percival's Island.

There are three entrances to the Blackwater Creek Trail:

Ed Page Entrance is located at 1720 Langhorne Road, behind Saint George Greek Orthodox Church. The Awareness Garden is also located at this entrance.
East Randolph Place Entrance is located at 340 East Randolph Place - currently closed for upgrades
Downtown Lynchburg Entrance is located at the intersection of Jefferson Street and 8th Street, near Amazement Square

Blackwater Creek Trail was named for the Blackwater Creek that runs beside sections of the trail. Multiple earthen trails intersect the paved trail, allowing visitors to explore the woods and walk beside Blackwater Creek.
