Brought home too many apples from the apple orchard? We've got the solution: Applesauce! Homemade applesauce is very easy to make ... and tastes so much better than the store-bought version.
My kids enjoy the process of making our homemade applesauce and they love the taste too — which is great, given how healthy homemade applesauce is. I love that it smells so good while it’s cooking.

Homemade applesauce
Ingredients:
- 4 large apples (Any kind of apple will do!)
- Juice from 1 lemon
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 Tbsp. brown sugar (or to taste)
- 1/4 cup water
Directions:
1. Peel, core, and cut your apples into quarters. Put the apples into the slow cooker and add the juice from the lemon and the water. Next, add vanilla, cinnamon, and brown sugar.
2. Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours. When the apples are super tender, mash with a potato masher or large fork.
This homemade applesauce recipe makes about 2 cups, and is easy to double and even triple. My advice: Make as much as you can, and freeze any extra that you won't enjoy in four or five days.
