The James River Association is providing a fantastic opportunity for youth to engage with river-based learning experiences that inspire confidence, ecological understanding, nature appreciation, and conservation action. Campers will have the opportunity to kayak, canoe, and paddleboard this summer! Students will be given paddling instructions and safety guidelines and spend the week with our staff who have received American Canoe Association and Wilderness First Responder training. Campers will also learn about proper paddling techniques and water safety – all while having fun with friends. Our on-the-water explorations connect students with new skills, scientific techniques, and historical insight to better understand and enjoy the James River. Campers will also have several opportunities to fish, and JRA will provide lessons on proper fishing techniques and teach about the anatomy of a fish. Our 5-day camp is $300, due at the time of registering. Camp runs from 9 am - 4 pm each day. Extended care is offered for a $50 fee for parents who need to drop their students off at 8 am and/or pick up at 5 pm. Camp is provided to rising 3rd-8th graders in the Lynchburg region. Activities include science experiments, art projects, watersports, swimming, and team challenges.
