Kick off the James River Batteau Festival at the Lynchburg Launch Festival!

The 2018 James River Batteau Festival is an 8-day trip from Lynchburg to Maidens Landing stopping at Galts Mill, Bent Creek, Wingina, Howardsville, Scottsville, Slate River, Cartersville, Maidens Landing. Visit http://www.batteau.org/. FREE ADMISSION. FEES FOR CAMPERS.

The James River Batteau Festival will launch from Lynchburg for the 33rd year and continue down the James River on an 8 day journey to Maidens Landing using replica late 18th & early 19th century cargo boats called James River Batteaux.

Watch the launch of the replica batteaux as they begin their journey down the river, and enjoy activities highlighting the history and ecology of the James River. Join us for live traditional music, environmental educational activities, craft activities for children, a petting zoo, demonstrations, and local food trucks!

During the festival, children can participate in a scavenger hunt & enter to win a cool prize.
