Notes regarding time

Batteaux will launch from Riveredge Park in Madison Heights around 8 AM on Saturday, June 17

Description

Due to the current low levels of the James River, JRBF Leadership is opting to err on the side of caution and NOT STOP at Percival's Island for a launch celebration and get an early start downriver to avoid having boats and crew still out on the James after dark! We still have our fingers crossed that a planned water release from Reusen's Dam will occur and help the water level Saturday morning. You can still see many of the craft leave if you get to River Edge Park or on to Percival's before 8:00am and cheer them on.

The Launch of the 38th James River Batteau Festival in 2023 will be on June 17 from Lynchburg. Batteaux will begin arriving at Percival's Island around 9 AM and will be announced after the cannon is fired at 11 AM to signal the start of the journey down-river.

There will be James River Batteau Festival t-shirts on sale as well.

The 8-day trip from Lynchburg to Maidens Landing stops at Galts Mill, Bent Creek, Wingina, Howardsville, Scottsville, Slate River, Cartersville, and ends on June 24 at Maidens Landing.

The enjoyment we’ve had over the past three decades along with the attention we’ve brought to the James, the Batteaux, and this interesting period in our history, make the festival a truly unique event for everyone involved.
