The Lynchburg Public Library is excited to announce the opening of its newest satellite branch on Saturday, June 8. The new branch will be located in the former Visitor Center at 216 12th Street (behind the Community Market and at the corner of 12th and Church Streets). The decision to open this new branch has been in development for several months as the library continues its mission to meet community needs.
The current Downtown Branch, located in the lower level of City Hall, 900 Church Street, will be closed.
The Downtown Branch will house a special collection of curated new and trending books as well as programs for all ages that match the vibrant energy of Downtown Lynchburg. Some of these programs will include family story times, an adult book club and summer activities for teens. It will boast a cozy children’s area with seating and toys. It will also have two computer stations and an outdoor sitting area. Local artist, Elizabeth Gray has been commissioned to paint a special mural inside to make the new space inviting to all.
The public is cordially invited to attend the grand opening celebration for the new branch on Saturday, June 8 at 9:00 a.m. that will feature remarks from community leaders, special programs throughout the day and light refreshments.
