Tree Lighting Ceremony and Cookies and Crafts with Santa before paradeDescription
We are pleased to announce that the 2024 Christmas Parade on December 6 in the Town of Amherst will be on Main Street in celebration of the holiday season, showcasing marching bands, dancers, musicians, and much more. The parade will take place rain or shine. The excitement begins at 6:30 p.m. where the parade will step-off from Kenmore Road before traveling up Main Street and ending at the traffic circle. Parade-goers are encouraged to arrive early to find a spot on S. Main Street to watch the parade and to spread the festive cheer.
This year’s theme is "Christmas at the Zoo". Parade spectators are invited to participate in the illumination by adorning light-up apparel and accessories. Parade participants are encouraged to decorate their entries inspired by this theme.
Prior to the Christmas Parade, the following events will take place:
COOKIES and CRAFTS WITH SANTA AND LIVE MUSIC
The town of Amherst will hold its annual Cookies and Crafts with Santa at Town Hall from 4 PM - 6 PM
There will be live entertainment on stage in the Town Hall Parking lot from 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM
The Parade will start at Kenmore Road at 6:30 PM, traveling up S. Main Street, and ending at the Traffic Circle

Please be aware of the following road closures:
Beginning at 5:30 pm S. Main Street will be closed to thru traffic for a brief period of time from Lancer Lane to Kenmore to line up the parade.
Beginning at 5:30 pm S. Main Street will be closed to thru traffic from Kenmore to 2nd Street ending at Washington Street, until the conclusion of the parade.
Beginning at 5:30 pm and ending at 10:00 pm S. Main Street will be closed to thru traffic from the vicinity of 2nd Street to Hanger Street.
HOW TO REGISTER:
• Online at www.amherstva.gov and click on the Events tab at the top or register in person at Town Hall.
• Registration deadline is Dec. 2 at 5 PM.

RESIDENT AND BUSINESS DECORATING CONTEST:
We encourage all Town residents and businesses to decorate in a big way. Your decorations play a significant role in the annual event. The parade theme is “Christmas at the Zoo” so let your imagination run wild and have fun decorating your homes and businesses.
Final judging will take place the evening of Dec. 4, beginning at 5:30 pm.
In keeping with the parade theme, use of Lights is highly encouraged.
