Lynchburg VA Area School Guide

There are numerous public school systems and independent schools in the city of Lynchburg and the surrounding counties. This guide offers basic information on each school system. For information about each individual school, visit each school system's website, linked below. 

PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEMS

LYNCHBURG CITY SCHOOLS

Lynchburg City Schools offer educational services to more than 7,800 students enrolled in preschool through adult classes in two high schools, three middle schools, and eleven elementary schools. Alternative elementary, middle and high school programs, gifted programs, and programs for the disabled are also available.

AMHERST COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

The Amherst County Public School system includes six elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school, and the Amherst Education Center.

APPOMATTOX COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS
316 Court Street Appomattox VA 24522

Appomattox County Public School system includes four schools in the school division. Those schools include Appomattox Primary School (Pre-K– Grade 2), Appomattox Elementary School (Grades 3-5), Appomattox Middle School (Grades 6-8), and Appomattox County High School (Grades 9-12).

From the Appomattox County Schools website: "Our mission is to ensure all students, upon graduation from ACPS, will have learned the skills to become productive and contributing citizens at the local, state, national, and/or global level and that all students learn in a safe, nurturing environment that engages school personnel, students, parents, and community members as collaborative partners."


BEDFORD COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

The Bedford County Public School system includes 13 primary and elementary schools, three middle schools, three high schools, Bedford Science and Technology Center, and the Alternative Education Center.

CAMPBELL COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

The Campbell County Public School system includes seven elementary schools, two middle schools, two high schools, two combined middle/high schools, Campbell County Technical Center, and Cornerstone Learning Center.

INDEPENDENT AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS

BLUE RIDGE MONTESSORI SCHOOL

Blue Ridge Montessori School serves children from infants through kindergarten.

DESMOND T. DOSS CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

Desmond T. Doss Christian Academy is accredited by VA Council for Private Education, National Council for Private School Accreditation. Desmond T. Doss serves children in Pre-K through 12th grade.

JAMES RIVER DAY SCHOOL

James River Day School is fully accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS). VAIS is recognized and approved by the Virginia Board of Education through the Virginia Council for Private Education (VCPE). James River Day School serves children from kindergarten through eighth grade.

LIBERTY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY (LCA)
100 Mountain View Road Lynchburg VA 24502

Liberty Christian Academy is accredited through the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and holds state accreditation through the Virginia Council for Private Education (VCPE) and AdvancEd, now Cognia. Liberty Christian Academy is a ministry of Thomas Road Baptist Church. As such, it adheres to the Doctrinal Statement of Thomas Road Baptist Church. LCA serves children from preschool through 12th grade.

NEW COVENANT SCHOOLS

New Covenant Schools is fully accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS). New Covenant offers a classical education to children from Pre-K through 12th grade.

NEW VISTAS SCHOOL

New Vistas School is accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS). New Vistas School is licensed by the Virginia Department of Education to serve students with special needs, including students with learning, attention, and emotional challenges. New Vistas serves children in third through 12th grades from Lynchburg and the surrounding area.

RIVERMONT SCHOOL LYNCHBURG NORTH

Rivermont School Lynchburg North provides a special education program for students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade, including individuals with autism, developmental delays, emotional disabilities, intellectual disabilities, multiple disabilities, other health impairments, specific learning disabilities, speech or language impairment, and traumatic brain injury.

RIVERMONT SCHOOL LYNCHBURG SOUTH

Rivermont School Lynchburg South provides a special education program for students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade, including individuals with autism, developmental delays, emotional disabilities, intellectual disabilities, multiple disabilities, other health impairments, specific learning disabilities, speech or language impairment, and traumatic brain injury.


VIRGINIA EPISCOPAL SCHOOL (VES)
400 VES Road Lynchburg VA 24503

Virginia Episcopal School is a small college preparatory school serving young men and women in grades 9–12. VES has a mixture of boarding and day students.
