Hit the Trails on June 3 for National Trails Day®

American Hiking Society's National Trails Day® is the first Saturday in June

By Sandy Wallace and American Hiking Society May 15, 2023

The American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day® is celebrated every year on the first Saturday in June. This year, National Trails Day is observed on Saturday, June 3. Founded in 1976, American Hiking Society is the only national nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering all to enjoy, share, and preserve the hiking experience.

Every year on National Trails Day, millions of people across the United States come together to enjoy a hike, clean up a trail, and make the outdoor community better than ever.

American Hiking invites those wanting to get outside to connect with others at a local trail for a scheduled event, plan their own event, or just get out there and hike! Although there are no local events in the Lynchburg area, a great way to celebrate this year is to bring a bag with you on your hike and pick up any trash you find.

Here are some of our favorite hikes in the Lynchburg area to enjoy:

Pledge: Commit to leaving the trail and the outdoor community better than ever. American Hiking will provide simple ways to make a positive impact;

Connect: Anyone can share how they’ll leave the trail and the outdoor community better than ever by tagging #NationalTrailsDay and @AmericanHiking on social media.

American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day® is made possible by the generous support of Corporate Sponsors – AKGH™ by Duluth Trading Co., Athletic Brewing Co., REI Co-Op, and Osprey Packs. Try to spend 15 to 30 minutes each day participating in active, outdoor time. You can hike, ride bikes or just play a game of ball in your own back yard. Spending time outdoors helps the kids burn off some of that sitting-all-day energy. Start this week and commit to spending time outdoors every week all year -- every day if you can. Get physical and have a happy, healthy 2023.
