Are you tired of the same old summer activities and places? Try somewhere new this week! Mill Creek Lake Park is located at 238 Mill Creek Lake Road in the Temperance area of Amherst, approximately 30 miles from Lynchburg.
Mill Creek Lake Park is one of three parks located in the Temperance area of Amherst County. The other two parks are Stonehouse Lake Park, a 41 acre fishing lake located at 294 Stonehouse Lake Road, and Thrashers Lake Park, a 35 acre fishing lake located at 223 Thrashers Lake Road.
Mill Creek Lake Park is the largest of the three, consisting of a 190 acre fishing lake, boat ramp, picnic tables, grills, a play area for children, and restrooms. A dedicated swimming area with a sandy beach was created in 2020 and is roped off separately from the rest of the lake. The swimming area has been expanded and now includes a diving platform.
New in 2022 at Mill Creek Lake Park is the swing jump, a big swing mounted to a platform overlooking the lake. Swing out, then jump off the swing into the lake. The water is six to eight feet deep in this section of the lake and there's a ladder to climb back up to the platform.
It's free to visit Mill Creek Lake Park and there are no fees for swimming. There is no lifeguard on duty at the lake. Pack a picnic lunch, sunscreen, and plenty of water and enjoy a day of fun in the sun with the family at Mill Creek Lake Park!
