Summer family fun is waiting for you close to home at English Park, located at 206 Pittsylvania Avenue in Altavista.
The Staunton River runs beside English Park, with picnic tables located in the grassy area above the river. There are also walking trails, soccer fields, basketball courts, playgrounds, a boat ramp, restrooms, a pavilion, and a splash pad - the favorite for many families.
The Altavista Splash Park at English Park is open continuously from Memorial Day through Labor Day and weather permitting on weekends in May prior to Memorial Day and September after Labor Day. The hours of the splash pad are 10 AM - 7 PM.
There are water implements that spray, mist and shower children while they play. Users of the splash pad are reminded that swim diapers are required for infants; regular diapers are not allowed on the splash pad and that there is no lifeguard on duty. A full listing of rules and regulations is posted at the splash pad.
A pavilion with picnic tables is located beside the spray park. Restrooms are nearby also. In the event of storms with lightning and thunder, the splash pad will be closed until it is safe for use.
The most popular walking trail is Riverside Trail, a 3.2 mile out and back trail. There's also another paved trail running at the edge of the park, near the river.
Plan a family trip to English Park and bring swimsuits and lunches! Altavista is only about 30 minutes from Lynchburg, so it's an easy day trip with the kids.
