Most Central Virginia families have visited Smith Mountain Lake State Park, but that's only one of the 41 Virginia State Parks. Located about 20 minutes from downtown Richmond, Pocahontas State Park offers boating, fishing, bicycling, picnicking, camping, hiking and ranger programs. Pocahontas also has a seasonal Aquatic Center open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend with a kiddie pool, fountain wet deck, 3-foot and 5-foot deep pools, an activity pool and two tubular water slides. Rowboat, paddleboat, kayak and canoe rentals are also available.

Pocahontas State Park is located at 10301 State Park Road in Chesterfield. Take Route 29 North to I-64 West. Take Route 288 South to Route 10 East (Iron Bridge Road) to Route 655 (Beach Road) to State Park Road. Virginia State Parks offer outdoor fun to families and individuals at a reasonable price.

Pay an all-day parking fee and an additional fee to enjoy the Aquatic Center during the week. Admissions are slightly higher on weekends. Admission is free for kids under age 3. Summertime fun awaits at Pocahontas State Park. Plan a visit this summer to Pocahontas or one of the other 40 Virginia State Parks.
