Wayside Park is only about 30 minutes from Lynchburg and your kids will love it! If you're looking for a fun day trip for the family, Wayside Park is your place.

Located at 1678 Main Street in Hurt, along Seneca Creek, Wayside Park in Pittsylvania County was renovated in 2000. The park features accessible playground equipment, picnic shelters, pickleball courts, walking and hiking trails, a historic swinging bridge, a LOVE sculpture, and an amazing zipline! The bathrooms are located near the playground for easy access.

Kids will love wading and playing in Seneca Creek too. There are multiple easy paths below the bridge that lead to the creek.

But the favorite feature for kids of all ages is the zipline, located in the playground area. Step up onto the platform, have a seat, and hang on as you fly through the air! If your kids like the zipline at Linkhorne Elementary School, they'll love the longer and faster zipline at Wayside Park. It's big enough for grown-ups too.

Originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1935 as a rest stop for travelers, Pittsylvania Wayside was one of seven waysides built by the CCC from 1933 to 1942.

The Civilian Conservation Corps was part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal to provide jobs during the Great Depression. In addition to the swinging bridge, other historic structures include a timber frame picnic shelter, stacked stone walls, and tall chimney grills.

The swinging bridge and LOVE sign are perfect places for family photos and be sure to capture videos of the kids on the zipline!

From Lynchburg, follow Route 29 South past Altavista, then take the US-29 Hurt BUS exit, then follow GPS directions to the park. The LOVE sign is located right on Main Street, not within the playground area.
