Here's 10 outdoor challenges to take with your family this summer!

Kids spend more time indoors now than in years past. Here at Lynchburg Macaroni Kid, we promote outdoor play and share many family-friendly outside events in our event calendar.

June is Great Outdoors Month, the perfect time to spend more time enjoying outdoor activities.Take one of these outdoor challenges this summer with your family.

1. 1000 Hours Outside - The 1000 Hours Outside project helps families intentionally spend more time outdoors. Here are 10 ways to get outside more in the Lynchburg area 

2. Free Fishing Days - This year, June 2-4 are Free Fishing Days in Virginia. Plan Ahead for FREE Fishing Days in Virginia

3. National Trails Day - June 3 is American Hiking Society's National Trails Day. Hit the Trails on June 3 for National Trails Day® 

4. National Get Outdoors Day - June 10 is National Get Outdoors Day. Choose a national, state or local park and Get Outdoors! Find a park at the National Park Service website

5. Great American Campout - The Great American Campout is observed this year on June 24. Join the Great American Campout This Summer

6. Visit a Park Every Week - Take part in this unofficial challenge to visit all of the parks in the Lynchburg area. Lynchburg Virginia Area Parks Guide 

7. Take a Biking Challenge - Take part in an unofficial challenge to visit all of the local biking trails. 10 Lynchburg VA Area Places to Ride Bikes

8. Learn an Outdoor Skill - Learn or teach your child an outdoor skill. Check out programs offered by Lynchburg Parks & Recreation

9. Virginia State Parks Trail Quest - Visit one or more of the 39 Virginia State Parks offering the Trail Quest program. Check the link for full details. 

10. Wandering Waters Paddle Quest - Visit one or more of the 31 Virginia State Parks offering the Paddle Quest program. Check the link for full details.

Choose your family's favorite way to spend more time outdoors this summer! Put away those devices, start small with 15 or 30 minutes a day, and work your way up to more outdoor time making memories together.
